Sprinkler in the Orchard
Classwork # 6
(p. 78)

This exercise is
similar to the previous one.
Imagine the
sprinkler watering an circular area with a radius of 14 units located
at (0,0).
Question #1
Remember: Your job
is to state whether the trees will be watered.
Start by drawing the
sprinkler at (0,0) and the trees a, b, and c.
Calculate the
distance between the sprinkler and each tree.
If d < or = to the
radius of the sprinkler your answer should be YES. Explain.
If d > to the
radius of the sprinkler your answer should be NO. Explain.
Question #2
In question 2 the
sprinkler is located in a coordinate other than (0, 0) and has a different
radius. (28, -19) and r = 18.
Again find the
distance between the sprinkler and each tree.
f d < or = to the
radius of the sprinkler your answer should be YES. Explain.
If d > to the
radius of the sprinkler your answer should be NO. Explain.
Question #3
Try your best
answering this question. A compass and graph paper will help you.
